The art of fasting (04/02/08)
Buchinger has compiled for you 10 recommendations for purposeful fasting
- Seek out a quiet place - with time and space in which you can let go.
- Find a good person to advise you, someone who understands fasting - preferably a doctor who specialises in fasting.
- Stimulate the detoxification process by drinking plenty of water, 2 hours' exercise in the fresh air, massage, a daily liver compress and regular bowel movements.
- Break with all your usual behaviour patterns and consciously enjoy having time for yourself.
- Nourish your soul with nature, culture, humour, dialogue, meditation, sufficient stillness and solitude.
- Take a break from nicotine, alcohol, coffee and stress!
- Postpone sex till after the fast, but be careful: fertility increases!
- During the fast donate money to a good cause (fast, pray, give alms).
- Allow four whole days for the slow return to normal (carefully increasing the amount you eat).
- Read a good guide to fasting, for example „Buchinger Therapeutic Fasting – an Experience for the Body and the Spirit“ (Trias Verlag 2003), Dr. Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo.
