The art of fasting

Buchinger has compiled for you 10 recommendations for purposeful fasting

  1. Seek out a quiet place - with time and space in which you can let go.
  2. Find a good person to advise you, someone who understands fasting - preferably a doctor who specialises in fasting.
  3. Stimulate the detoxification process by drinking plenty of water, 2 hours' exercise in the fresh air, massage, a daily liver compress and regular bowel movements.
  4. Break with all your usual behaviour patterns and consciously enjoy having time for yourself.
  5. Nourish your soul with nature, culture, humour, dialogue, meditation, sufficient stillness and solitude.
  6. Take a break from nicotine, alcohol, coffee and stress!
  7. Postpone sex till after the fast, but be careful: fertility increases!
  8. During the fast donate money to a good cause (fast, pray, give alms).
  9. Allow four whole days for the slow return to normal (carefully increasing the amount you eat).
  10. Read a good guide to fasting, for example „Buchinger Therapeutic Fasting – an Experience for the Body and the Spirit“ (Trias Verlag 2003), Dr. Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo.
