Therapeutic fasting has been our specialist field since 1953. That means that in 2013, the Buchinger concept, honed by three generations, will be 60 years old. But more than that, we are celebrating a double anniversary – the clinic in Überlingen has been around for 60 years and Buchinger in Marbella for 40 years. To mark this special occasion, we are holding various celebrations and a medical congress, as well as a colourful variety of jubilee events throughout the year.

Our first birthday present comes from the world of science, where a fresh wind is blowing from the direction of gerontology and longevity research: Both have given fasting and calorie restriction the thumbs up. Combined with healthy nutrition, regular fasting makes all creatures live longer. The new motto is: ”Eat, fast, live longer!” Otto Buchinger’s observations all those years ago have now been confirmed by modern science. As his pupil Dr. Heinz Fahrner said: ”Fasting is the strongest appeal to the human being’s natural powers of healing and self-rejuvenation, on both a spiritual and corporeal level.”

Überlingen has made the leap into its 60s with flying colours and an accomplished team. And on Marbella’s 40th birthday, the clinic has been given a radical metamorphosis with the inauguration of a new building, Villa María.

The next generation of Wilhelmi de Toledos and Rohrer Wilhelmis is on the starting blocks, while the “oldies” take stock: Jutta and Claus Rohrer have been in Marbella for 30 years! Raimund Wilhelmi is delighted to see how the family-run company is growing. Since they were set up, the clinics in Über-lingen and Marbella with their multi-disciplinary therapeutic staff have accompanied guests through more than 250,000 fasting cures. To the best of our knowledge, they are the largest centres in the world for therapeutic fasting that cater for longer stays. We trust that in the coming years, we will be able to continue welcoming highly motivated guests from all over the world, who have been loyal to us for so many years.
