Actors and actresses just love his cooking

Hubert Hohler, head chef of Buchinger Clinic in Ueberlingen, Germany, working with filmmakers in the USA – planning the release of his own DVD
The patients of Buchinger Clinic will soon have access to a DVD with which they can recreate certain dishes they may have received today, written on their recipe lists. Chef Hubert Hohler has already begun shooting his film on the East Coast of the USA, which should be completed at the clinic this November. Apart from his own filmmaking, Hohler additionally took on the catering service of an entire film staff, including the actors and actresses - much to his and their delight.
Looking back at his three week stay in Massachusetts, Hohler exclaims, "It was really a great time!" He stayed in a very distinguished old house out on "Gansett Point"; a small tongue of land extending from the Cape Cod peninsula. Producer and director Andrew Silver was responsible for recruiting Hohler to take over cooking for the performers in the romantic film "Radio Cape Cod". Silver himself was once a patient at Buchinger Clinic. Hohler met Silver in Boston nine years ago as his wife was participating in one of Hohler’s cooking sessions. He remembers: "Silver just longed for something different to eat while filming; something that could also help make the performers feel like a big family." Since Silver had been very much impressed by the meals served at Buchinger Clinic, he wanted to incorporate the concept of "slow food" (healthy, natural food from the region) into the film "just a tiny bit". Even though Hohler is not directly seen in the film, he is heard in a radio interview during the film.
Hohler was able to discern that his cooking arts were most enthusiastically appreciated as he interviewed the actors and actresses at the film's conclusion. 90 percent expressed that, as far as the performers were concerned, the food was the main attraction apart from the film. Hohler grinning: "Especially the female performers were overjoyed to finally be able to eat as much as they wanted - without gaining weight." According to Hohler, this applied to the director himself as well, however, because he previously had gained each time an average of eight kilos by stuffing down the usual fast foods that were served. Hohler had only praise for the performers - among them Tamzin Outhwaite from England - who were not the least bit conceited. All enjoyed themselves immensely in Hohler's kitchen, watching him work or even trying to lend a hand. Says Hohler: "It was like meeting time in the kitchen."
Upon completion of his catering services, it was time for the head chef of Buchinger Clinic to get on with his own filming work: Equipped with a gas stove and a barbecue grill, he set out to cook some of those typical but simple Buchinger Clinic dishes outdoors. A team of cameramen were on site to film his culinary artwork. "Some of the sequences are going to be shown on American television", Hohler states in a conversation with the SUEDKURIER newspaper. The preparation of those dishes that are somewhat more difficult to reproduce is planned to be filmed in November, in the studio kitchen of the clinic. (hk)
